Additional Programs and Services at Rutgers
The Directed Reading Program in Physics
Have you ever wanted to learn about some area of physics beyond what you learn in classes? This is your chance. Paired with a graduate student mentor who will help to guide you, you will meet once a week to discuss what you have read that week. It is not a class. It is an opportunity to learn something faster and more completely than you could on your own.
The Directed Reading Program in Mathematics
The Directed Reading Program is a new program in which undergraduate students are paired with graduate student mentors for semester-long independent study projects.
Applicants who are selected for DRP positions will be paired with mentors
according to their mathematical interests and availability. Once paired, the
mentee and mentor decide jointly on the specific topics of study.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities in Psychology
Conduct hands-on research with noted faculty members in the psychology department! Visit the website and read the descriptions of each lab's work. If interested, contact the primary investigator for more information and to learn how to get involved.
The Douglass Project
The Douglass Project for Rutgers Women in Math, Science, and Engineering is dedicated to supporting undergraduate women at Rutgers University and students at the secondary level, who are interested in these disciplines.
The Douglass Project continually develops, coordinates, and evaluates programs to address issues women face in these fields. Our programs enhance educational experiences and provide personal development and leadership opportunities. The Douglass Project encourages students to recognize their abilities and empowers them to attain their goals.
Project L/EARN
The goal of Project L/EARN is to increase the number of minority students in the fields of mental health, health and health policy research, thereby expanding the breadth of health research to include a broader range of ethnic and cultural issues, concerns and perspectives.
Subject Specialist Librarians
Collection Development / Subject Specialist Librarians are responsible for selecting library materials in specific subject areas, for communicating with appropriate departments and individuals about library collections, and for assessing information resources in their subject areas of responsibility. They also teach library instruction sessions, develop online and print materials that support research and instruction, and provide information consultation services in their subject specialties. For information, contact Karen Hartman or Jeris Cassel.

National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)
NSF funds a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU Sites program. An REU Site consists of a group of ten or so undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution. Each student is associated with a specific research project, where s/he works closely with the faculty and other researchers. Students are granted stipends and, in many cases, assistance with housing and travel. Undergraduate students supported with NSF funds must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions. An REU Site may be at either a US or foreign location. This site allows you to browse by discipline or
search by keywords to identify sites in particular research areas or with certain features, such as a particular location. For examples of REU programs, here are some selected program descriptions.
