Alexia Ciarfella

Alexia is a Senior in SEBS double-majoring in Food Science (Research Option) and Nutritional Sciences (Nutrition, Food, and Business Option). She began her experience with the Aresty Research Center during the 2015 Aresty Summer Science Program where she worked in Dr. Richard Ludescher’s laboratory studying fluorescence spectroscopy as an analytical technique to monitor the quality and safety of food. Since her experience in the Summer Science Program, she has been awarded Aresty Research Fellowships for both the 2015-16 and the 2016-17 school years. Additionally, she has been awarded Aresty Conference Funding to present her research at multiple conferences, including the Institute of Food Technologists Conference and the Biophysical Society Meeting. Alexia continues to research in Dr. Ludescher’s laboratory and will be beginning her G.H. Cook Honors Thesis in Fall 2017. In addition to her passion for research, Alexia is also the President of the Undergraduate Food Science Club, a member of the SEBS General Honors Program, a brother of the Alpha Zeta Honors and Service Fraternity, and a member of the Rutgers Performing Dance Company. Ultimately, Alexia aspires to translate her passion for research to a position in the food industry in the Ingredient Research Function, as she has been interning with Mondelez International.
