Institutional Review Board

The Rutgers Institutional Review Board (IRB) is charged with the protection of the rights and welfare of human research subjects while facilitating ethical research. Review by the IRB is required for research involving human subjects regardless of the funding source, and also covers human subjects research without funding.

The IRB submission process can be daunting so follow this easy checklist (it's also available on the Office of Research Regulatory Affairs website).

Step 1: Confirm you are submitting to the correct IRB office.

Step 2: Confirm if your study involves human subjects and/or data.

Step 3: Select your review type based on study risk level.

Step 4: Complete your CITI Human Subject Projection Training.

Step 5: Submit your study/project for IRB review.

Step 6: Review the IRB approval process.

If you have questions, please contact the New Brunswick IRB office at 732-235-9806.
